Where is Mendip Activity Centre?

Mendip Activity Centre's flagship site is based in the village o Churchill, North Somerset.

We deliver activities and provide accommodation at a number of different destinations. It's really important that you check your confrmation email really carefully. A number of these directions are listed below:

Sandford Quarry is our private rocksport quarry which is just a 5 minute drive from our Main Activity Centre. Access is by first turning into Quarry Road in Winscombe, nearest postcode, BS25 5RN.

Drive up quarry road for about 100m and then, enter the gates on your left. Follow the track into the quarry. You will see our vehicles and instructors. Please drive carefully and slowly, the track is uneven and bumpy in places.

If you are walking from Mendip Basecamp, our campsite, please allow at least 30 minutes to get to the quarry. You can either walk down the bridleway or turn right through the gate which says "Private Land. Quarry". The campsite staff can help with directions.

Hewish is located on Wick Road, just off the A370, near J21 of the M5. As it is a rural site, there is no exact postcode. Coming from the A370, the marked gateway is on your right, just 100 metres past the RCH Brewery just before the motorway bridge. Please drive carefully and slowly on the gravel track for 400 metres until you reach the gravel car park with dark green toilet block. Your Activity Instructor will meet you there shortly before your activity start time. Click here for a Google maps link to the location.

Mendip Basecamp is located within the grounds of Mendip Activity Centre.

Follow signs up the drive, keeping to the right rather than entering the main carpark on the left. After a hairpin bend, you will go under the ski slope bridge. Continue driving past Mendip Lodge. Continue to follow the signs to Mendip Basecamp which will take you up the hill up a track to the camping field.

Basecamp check in takes place in the huge white marquee in the middle of the field, the Pavilion.

SUP Bristol is based at Underfall Yard, Cumberland Rd, Bristol BS1 6XG

Our usual meeting place is the Cottage Inn, Baltic Wharf, Cumberland Road, Bristol BS1 6XG. We’ll meet you by the slipway and you’ll probably see a row of paddleboards. We’re a 30 minute walk from the city centre or a short ferry journey!

Parking

Use the free parking on site at the Cottage Inn (BS1 6XG) but it is first come first served. Our nearest pay and display car park is at the ss Great Britain. If you’re driving please be sure to leave plenty of time for Bristol traffic and to find a parking space.

Public Transport Or leave the car at home and join us on foot or bike. There are bike racks in the Underfall Yard car park. The M1 bus stops a two minute walk away.

Sustainable Travel

We strongly encourage our guests to consider sustainable travel options when visiting our sites:

Cycling

The Strawberry Line passes close to Mendip Activity Centre, Mendip Basecamp and Sandford Quarry. An old train line, it currently runs between Yatton and Cheddar as an entirely traffic-free cycling and pedestrian family-friendly path.

Walking

Local villages Sandford, Churchill & Winscombe. SUP Bristol with its central location can be accessed easily by foot.

Public Transport

Buses run between Weston-super-Mare, Cheddar, Wells and the local villages including Sandford, where we are based. Click here to plan a route.

The Falcon bus travels between Bristol, Exeter & Plymouth, stopping on the A38, a 20-minute walk from Mendip. Click here to view the timetable.

The closest train station to Mendip Activity Centre is Yatton; the closest train station SUP Bristol is Bedminster.
