Our instructors are great at adapting everything to suit individual needs. If you have recently completed your Gold DofE Expeditions, we would expect you to find this week challenging but easily achievable.

These Gold Dofe Residentials are designed for anyone looking to complete the residential section of their Gold DofE award. You must be aged between 16 and 25. The DofE recommends attending a Gold Residential independently; however, it is allowable to attend the same course as someone you know.Please include in your induction form if there is someone you would like to share a room with. We can’t always guarantee this will be possible but will always try to take requests into account.

We have never had to cancel one of our Gold DofE Activity Residentials as they are extremely popular and regularly get completely full. In the unlikely event that we have low numbers, we will offer you an alternative date or a full refund.

We have a few basic house rules as this residential will have both under 18s and over 18s taking part: • Alcohol: Mendip’s Gold DofE Activity Residentials are alcohol-free. Regardless of age, we cannot allow participants to consume alcohol whilst in our care. • Rooms: All under 18 rooms will be single gender rooms. Over 18 rooms might be mixed gender. Unless previously agreed with parens/guardians before arrival, under 18's will not share a room with anyone over the age of 18. Socialising is not permitted in bedrooms, only named persons will be allowed in their own room. • Leaving Site: Under 18's are not permitted to leave the Mendip site whilst on residential, unless a parent or guardian provides a written statement allowing this, prior to arrival. Over 18's are permitted to leave but must let the residential lead know before leaving. • Medical Declaration: Participants aged 16 or over are able to sign their own medical declaration. This is included in the course induction form.

You'll be provided a full kit list in advance of the Gold DofE residential. All activity-specific kit will be provided. Here are some suggestions of what to bring on your Gold DofE Activity Residential: • Outdoorsy clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy • Waterproofs - we go ahead in all weathers • Sleeping bag (We will provide a pillow, pillowcase and bottom sheet) • Towel We recommend that you leave valuables at home. Mendip cannot accept responsibility for any valuables brought with you.

Mendip holds public liability insurance through the Activities Industry Mutual. This insurance does not cover accidential injury or illness so we recommend looking into your own personal injury and travel insurance.
