Mendip is looking for motivated, passionate and brilliant Campsite Hosts to take on seasonal roles at our award winning campsite, Basecamp, and help us on our mission, the Mendip Way.

​Basecamp was originally set up in 2014 for school activity camps and every year hundreds of children come to visit for their school activity camp. In July 2020, Basecamp then opened to the public for the first time with families loving the location, the space & freedom and activities on the doorstep.

​

In 2023 Basecamp was recognised as the best campsite in Bristol, Bath & Somerset, and then came runner up in the South West of England Tourism awards. Following this success, Basecamp then won Silver for Campsite of the Year in the Visit England Tourism Awards in 2025.

Mendip Basecamp is open to the public from 15th of May from Friday to Sunday only. Then from 17th of July it is open 7 days a week until the 6th September.

​

Weekends: Fridays 14::00 - 21:30; Saturdays 7:30 - 21:30; Sundays 7:30 - 15:00

Full weeks: Monday to Sunday - 7:30 - 21:30

The Role​

​Basecamp has a dedicated team who look after our onsite Pavilion shop, catering, bar and customer check-ins. This is a fun and fast paced role which primarily focuses on providing an excellent customer experience throughout our guest visits.

​

The role as campsite team member involves all the tasks required within our main Pavilion marquee which acts as our check-in, information point, shop, cafe, bar and sitting area.​​

​

Core Responsibilities

· Communicate and engage in conversation with our guests ensuring a comfortable stay

· Checking in guests

· Providing information and upselling our activities

· Serving in the shop/cafe/bar

· General upkeep, restocking and cleaning the Pavilion area

· Ensuring campsite facilities are clean and in good order

· Facility changeovers on Fridays and Sundays

· Other ad-hoc duties
 

Desirable Skills

· Ability to prioritise tasks efficiently and effectively

· Dealing with customer enquiries in a professional and courteous manner

· Embrace the outdoors

· Conscientious and responsible

· To be smart, punctual and reliable

· Basic IT skills to understand our booking system

· Basic DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service): Our business involves working closely with children and will require a basic DBS check. (We will help you gain this and pay for the check)

· A number of years of experience in hospitality/leisure/campsites delivering a great customer experience.

Your attitude and personality is paramount to us: we’re looking for someone who has a positive outlook, professionalism, promptness and who works well under pressure. You’ll possess strong communication skills, and excellent presentation skills and enjoy a varied and challenging role.
