A Shipham-based athlete who first learned to ski at Mendip Activity Centre is now racing on the world stage and chasing qualification for the 2026 Winter Games. That athlete is Jens Hullah, and we’re proud to once again sponsor him during his next bobsleigh season.

A Rapid Rise to the World Stage of Bobsleigh

Jens’ journey didn’t begin in the Alps. It started right here in the Mendip Hills, when he learned to ski on our dry ski slope whilst at Churchill Secondary School. What began as a local school activity led to a school ski trip to Austria and ultimately sparked a passion that has taken him far beyond North Somerset.

Jens joined the Team GB Bobsleigh programme in summer 2023. Just two months later, he was competing at the highest level of the sport.

“I’m very patriotic. I love Great Britain. Since the age of 12, when I saw London 2012, I knew I wanted to have a go at elite sport. That’s where rowing started - and then bobsleigh followed. Now I’m here.”

During his debut 2023/24 season, Jens raced on the IBSF World Cup circuit, competed at the World Championships, and travelled across Europe and North America - an extraordinary achievement in one of winter sport’s most demanding disciplines.

After strong results across the 2024 and 2025 World Cup seasons, Jens’ bobsleigh team is now awaiting confirmation on potential selection for the upcoming Winter Games.

“Being an elite athlete is pretty cool. I’ve travelled to places like Latvia, Canada, Switzerland and Norway - places I’d never normally visit without sport. Being active and exercising is my biggest passion."
