Reason #1: Pitch Where You Like
Basecamp has no marked pitches, so you can set up your tent wherever it suits you. Choose a quiet corner overlooking the Mendip Hills, pitch beside the ancient woodland, or create a tent circle with friends and family. Basecamp is a family-run and family-focused site that also welcomes small groups of well behaved adults. You will be surrounded by like minded campers.
Reason #2: The Epic Sandpit!
The large sandpit in the middle of Basecamp is a favourite with children. It is big, exciting and keeps them entertained for hours! They can clamber over boulders, dig channels, build castles or imagine exploring the wilds in a green canoe. It is simple, safe fun right in the centre of the campsite.
Reason #3: Free Live Music for Families
From funky grooves to chilled-out folk, relax with live music on the weekends at the Bandwagon, our very own on-site portable performance venue in a converted horsebox. Kick back with a cold beverage and watch the stars come out as voices and guitars weave together a magical evening out in nature.
Reason#4: Climb, Paddle, Walk, Crawl, Aim!
Basecamp sits beside Mendip Activity Centre, our onsite adventure hub. The Mendip Hills National Landscape is one of the UK's most unique places to explore, and it's close to legendary Somerset destinations like Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury, and Wells.
At Mendip, families can try Rock Climbing, Archery, Kayaking, Caving, Frisbee Golf and Tobogganing, along with many other activities. Booking in advance is recommended, but Reception can help you choose something when you arrive.
Reason #5: Fire Pits Encouraged
Fire pits are part of the camping experience and we encourage their use! Bring your own or hire one for your stay, which includes a fire starter kit. And don't worry - marshmallows are available from the campsite shop if you forget to pack them.
Reason #6: No Tent, No Problem
If you want the camping experience but don't have your own tent or campervan, Basecamp has options! You can book a pre-pitched safari tent, a bell tent or a bunk tent. Sleeping up to 6 people, these pre-pitched options are excellent value and the perfect way to dip your toe into a camping holiday.
And Finally, Reason to Camp #7: No Check-Out Time
There is no check out time at Mendip Basecamp. You can pack up when it suits you, without rushing. Spend the day trying an activity, relaxing with a coffee and croissant at the Pavilion, or letting the children play while you unwind.
